How much sleep do you get a night on average? Sometimes when life gets busy we start burning the candle at both ends, getting up early and staying up late. But are you really getting ahead by doing this? Not getting enough sleep can have some bad consequences for your health and your waist line! For #WellnessWednesday I have 5 reason why you should get your sleep!!
Women who lack sleep are susceptible to weight-gain!
A Finnish study showed that there is a link in women to lack of sleep and weight gain. They tracked middle aged women and men over 5-7 years, and women who had sleep problems also gained approximately 5 kilograms!
Poor Sleep can increase your risk of Type 2 Diabetes!
Not getting enough shut eye can cause your body’s metabolic regulation to become out of balance. Getting only 4 hours of sleep can impair the body’s use of insulin by up 25 percent!!
Sleeping too much won’t solve the problem either!
If you are under 40 and sleep more than 8 hours every night, you can expect more belly fat! This visceral fat can lead to diabetes and high blood pressure.
Not sleeping enough will slow you down in your workouts!
Getting less than 4 hours of sleep for a few nights in a row can cause you to workout at a less intense level. Which makes sense! You are just too tired to work out!
You’ll have a lower immune system!
If you find you are catching every cold that comes around, it could be due to your lack of sleep! Prolonged lack of sleep can disrupt your immune system, so you’ll be less able to fend off bugs!
